With over two decades of architectural experience, Michael brings a depth of technical knowledge and a thoughtful design sensibility to every project. A graduate of Temple University’s School of Architecture, including studies in Rome, his career began in Philadelphia, where he contributed to a wide range of projects spanning institutional, healthcare, academic, transportation, and restoration work. His tenure at firms such as Ballinger, Hillier, and DPK&A Architects developed a strong foundation in complex, large-scale design balanced by a sensitivity to context and craft, including work on several award-winning projects.

Michael founded Sidewalk Design in 2020, prior to relocating to Florida in 2021. His independent practice focuses on residential additions, renovations, and small commercial fitouts that emphasize clarity, collaboration, and transformation. Drawing on his experience and knowledge from large-scale projects, he applies the same level of thoughtful design and attention to detail to every project, regardless of size. Licensed in Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and NCARB-certified, he continues to approach architecture as a shared process—one that values purpose, place, and the lasting impact of well-considered design.

What types of projects do you work on?
Sidewalk Design focuses on small commercial fitouts, residential additions, and interior alterations. Projects span a variety of commercial and residential spaces, from renovations and expansions to tailored interior improvements.
How does the process work?
Each project begins with an initial consultation to review goals and site conditions. Sidewalk Design develops the design and coordinates with any required engineers, then prepares architectural drawings for the project. These drawings are provided to the owner, who works with their contractor to submit them to the local building department for permitting.
Do you provide permit drawings?
Yes. The firm prepares complete architectural permit drawings for submission to local building departments. These are coordinated with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers when required.
Do you provide interior design services?
Sidewalk Design provides architectural design, including overall interior layouts and design intent, as well as guidance on materials. For detailed selection of finishes, furniture, and fixtures (FFE), it’s best to work with a dedicated interior designer, and for custom cabinetry or built-ins, a cabinet designer.

Do you provide engineering, or do engineers need to be engaged on my project?
Sidewalk Design provides architectural design, not engineering.

For residential projects, a structural engineer is typically the only engineer that needs to be engaged, as required to ensure code compliance and safe construction. On residential projects, mechanical and plumbing layouts and equipment are typically provided by the contractor, who also gives electrical feedback and direction as needed for building inspections, while the architect guides the overall design.

For commercial projects, licensed MEP and structural engineers must be engaged to prepare permit-ready drawings, with the architect coordinating design intent and overall design direction.
Can you provide electrical and lighting plans?
For residential projects, Sidewalk Design can create electrical plans and lighting layouts for permitting. Final selection of lighting fixtures is typically made by the homeowner or an interior designer.

For commercial projects, Sidewalk Design can provide design intent for lighting fixture types and layouts, but coordination with a licensed electrical engineer is required to meet code and technical requirements.
